The Story of Whale 52 – A Faint Echo

A new whisper was heard
about the ‘loneliest whale in the world’.
At the very same hour,
yet from a distant, foreign sea,
a second call of 52 hertz rose up.
Perhaps that song,
which had long been thought to be solitary,
was in truth a duet –
two distant voices,
secretly seeking one another
across the vastness of the ocean.
The earth lies still –
in the gentle arms of the sea.
